Alder Brook is a body of work made over a period of a year which was focused on one location near the artist's home – a brook called “Blackaton Brook” and known among locals as “Love Brook”.

This section of the brook is a ford – that enables livestock to wander across the stream which is  also traversed by a bridge to enable walkers access to the footpath that passes either side of the ford. In the summer the water flow is very gentle and its surface becomes mirror like, capturing reflections of the bridge, gate, fences and trees that surround the water.

The combined series, of images taken on site and composite images made in the studio, are a reflection on themes of life passing, transience, embodiment and disembodiment enabled by the rich metaphor of a place of crossing and passage.
